Constituents Backlash

My time at the office today was a bit interesting. I didn't realize until today how much my job as an intern is impacted by social media and news media. When Trump tweets something, or when Fox News, or CNN, or the Congressman says something via the News Media constituents react to it either positively or negatively. In this particular case on this day; it was a very negative response to something that Trump has tweeted (obviously)--and our office was flooded with angry calls against the Congressman because he had not reacted to Trump's tweet.
The Tweet was about the Detention Centers that Trump was advocating a wider use for and began to separate families at the border in order to try and impede the number of people coming into this country. This made a lot of the constituents in district 11 extremely upset and prompted to call the office one because they did not agree with the president and two because the Congressman had not done enough to call the President out. Rightly so--the constituents were very upset and almost every call I took had to do with this tweet. After my day ended at the office and I was sitting in my car I realized how much power Trump had and has to control our daily narrative and that made me really upset as a constituent and as a citizen.
