My Daily Routine at the Office

I have been at my internship for a couple of weeks now and I have established a routine. When I get into the office I put all my things down on my desk, grab my note pad and open up my computer. The first thing that I do is go into Microsoft Office. I look at all of the emails that I haven't gotten the chance to look at since I was last there (my schedule is MF). After that I look at all Megan's email to all of the interns. Megan's email essentially gives us all of our tasks for the days that we are working. In her email she details who will be in and out of the office, who will be doing what, and some news articles that we need to read so we can be up to date on the latest news. After I read Megan's email I write down my tasks and I look at press releases that the communications team may have released.
Specifically. look at the Mark DeSaulnier Facebook Page and look at recent postings that the communications team may have posted on their as well. I have now been here long enough to know that the Congressman's constituents are very active and they react to almost everything that our office or the Congressman says. This is very surprising and pleasing as an active citizen because that is how government should work. I learned that I needed to keep up with the daily actives of Mark, local and national news because the constituents expect you to know that. When I pick up the phone I am not an intern I am a district representative. I learned that hard way that when I don't know the most up to date issues and stances I don't look prepared to the constituents and nine times out of ten that phone call wouldn't go well for me so I learned and I started to keep up with everything that involved the 11th district.
As I am keeping up with press releases and Facebook posts I am also answering phone calls, writing emails, and trying to complete my daily project--I think that this is the most difficult part of the internship because you never know when a wave of phone calls are going to come in and you have to stop what your doing to answer them and upload them into InterTrac. When my day ends I close my computer (I am usually sitting at intern desk two) and pack all my things up!
