This day at the office ended started off a bit differently. I would be starting my day with Charles. Charles was the social media representative in the Walnut Creek Office--I had never really worked with him until this point and so I was very very excited to work with him. I thought we were going to do things that built on my previous internship as a communications intern but we did not do anything near that.

Charles came up to me and gave me a newspaper that I was to read and then select events or news stories that were positive with regards to the community. I had never done this before for another person or for a Congressman so it took me a while to complete it all. When I got all of this back to Charles he sat down with me and I explained to him why I chose each piece in the newspaper and why it was significant to the community. As an intern, this part of my learning was helpful because I was able to close the loop between a task and learning why I was doing it. I learned with this experience that the press or the communications team for the Congressman needs to carefully craft their image and keep it as positive as possible as to not damage the reputation and ensure re-election. I believe that This is why I wasn't invited to do influence the social media, or work on a press release--when at the last internship I could. This experience signified for me the importance of Mass Communication.
