Today was my last day at the office. I knew they were going to have a party for the interns because there were a lot of us leaving as the summer was ending and school was starting. When I got into the office I did my daily tasks, did the mail, put cases into InterTrac and then when I finally got done with my tasks it was time for our party. I walked into the conference and staffers were setting up plates and pizza for everyone.
When it was time to finally get together as an office we ate, and the senior staffer Shanelle, began a speech. She said how grateful she was to have such capable interns and that she would miss us greatly. Then we went around and said how we were impacted by this internship. When it got to my turn--I said that what really impacted me was learning how government actually works. As a politics major, I thought I knew the ins and outs of government and boy was I wrong. I got first-hand experiences of how multiple people work together to create an office, support a member of Congress, and most importantly inform the people.
When lunch was over I got up, walked to my intern desk, cleared my things, and then went to the lunch room grabbed my lunch and started to say my goodbyes. After I said goodbye to everyone at the office I walked out the front door and left.
